CAMP: Community Association Modoc Preserve
Dedicated to Preserving the Modoc Preserve
We are the Community Association for the Modoc Preserve -CAMP, a grassroots group of ordinary working people who love the 25 acre Modoc Preserve.

The Modoc Preserve is a bio-diverse oasis between Santa Barbara and Goleta that supports rich plant life, from wetlands and grasslands with various shrubs to 100 plus year-old stately Canary Island Date palms, eucalyptus, and California live oaks.

At least 133 different plant species, native and non-native, have been identified.

Together, they provide habitat and shade canopy to a wildlife community that includes coyotes, foxes, hawks, great horned owls, migrating orioles, 71 bird species, Monarch butterflies and bees to name but a few.

This greenbelt oasis at the edge of the increasing urban sprawl that is overtaking the Santa Barbara area is also important for reducing heat absorption, air pollution, and offsetting carbon emissions.

It is open to all and enjoyed daily by pedestrians and equestrians who enjoy the preserve’s quality of life benefits that are also important in tackling the current climate emergency.

DON'T JUST TALK ABOUT IT...BE ABOUT IT!
take a l@@k and follow!
CANARY ISLAND DATE PALMS

These heritage trees are iconic and historic. Many have survived a number of Santa Barbara’s fires and wind storms over the last century. Including the 1990 Painted Cave Fire. We have aerial images from 1928 showing many of these trees.

We would like to see them preserved as-is to live out their natural lives. The CI Date palms life span is 200-300 years.

BLUE GUM EUCALYPTUS

Blue gum eucalyptus can live 200-400 years in Australia…possibly, longer here in SB. They are healthy and not close to the end of their life cycle.

We need to be a voice for them before they are forever silenced.

TREES MATTER!!!

We ask you to support our efforts to save the Modoc Preserve and other open spaces…and, urban tree belts and greenbelts…

BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!!
